Dannette Young, Volunteer at the Gospel Rescue Mission's Women and Children's CenterDannette Young started coming to the Women and Children’s Center as a University of Arizona student along with Jana Meyer, her classmate, who had a previous association with the Mission.

Jana encouraged Dannette to volunteer. Dannette and Jana volunteered during the school year. They were extraordinary, and were named co-volunteers of the year at the Women & Children’s Center in 2004.

Dannette is especially flexible, and is willing to help in any area. She taught classes, led groups, ran the front office, assisted clients and staff in all kinds of crisis’s and case management. She also planned and implemented a new class on grief and loss for the women.

Young insertShe is currently using her ministry counseling skills on a regular basis with several different women. Felice and Dannette co-teach three classes a week and she teaches the class when Felice is not available. Dannette is always willing to go the extra mile. She has shared that some of her past experiences have helped her in working with the women.

Dannette has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies and Human Development. She is making plans to start working on her Master’s in Social Work. Dannette is very involved in her church and teaching in her church. She says

“God brought me here.”

The Women & Children’s Center is thankful to have a volunteer partner who is so self directed and flexible, and who clearly enjoys being here.
