Phase One of Four

Bart Schannep

To never have to say “No room at the Inn” to sixteen homeless women a night who are looking for shelter and a safe place to stay.

You would think that we are past that, after all, we are the Gospel Rescue Mission… serving the homeless in Tucson since 1953. Yet here we are in 2007 and for several years now we have been turning away anywhere from five to twenty-five women every day looking for shelter and safety, many with children.

Our actual statistics for September were 16.2 women per day,
with the largest single record
day being 42 women.

Can you imagine, 42 women needing a place to stay and the Gospel Rescue Mission had to say NO? Well, things are changing, and we are working hard to make these changes.

At the annual Board of Director’s Retreat held last March, we felt God was asking us to move forward with His plan. We were not certain what His plan was, but we knew we were to walk in faith, and He would lead and provide.

We began to look at potential facilities, including 96 separate facilities and parcels of land. We came upon what we now refer to as our Women’s Center Transitional House.Gospel Rescue Mission's Women and Children's transitional Home image

This Transitional House will immediately relieve up to 10 beds at the current Women’s Center for other clients to use.

In addition, it will help ladies transition to independent living, offering minimal monitoring and support services before they move out completely on their own.

We do have a Men’s Center Transitional House already in operation, so this gives us one for the women and children.

Currently we are remodeling the building to make it a comfortable home. We should be ready to open in the beginning of next year, so look for an invitation to our Open House.

Our current financial need is $400,000 to cover the cost for this home, fixed up and with all new furniture. Please prayerfully consider making a donation (See below for more information on how to donate to the 5 to 25 Fund). This Women’s Transitional House is just the first of what we think will be four phases towards a plan we believe God is showing us.

Phase Two would be for a larger facility for our Women & Children’s Center and recovery program… such as a hotel or apartment complex.

Please continue to pray for this project!

Thank you for your prayer and financial support.
