H.S. Lopez Family Foundation Center of Opportunity & Gospel Rescue Mission
1953
Gospel Rescue Mission founded in Tucson, Arizona.

1992
GRM expands services to women through the opening of Bethany House.

2007
The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation is established.

2009
GRM expands shelter services with the opening of Wayward Winds.

2015
Humberto S. Lopez visits a nonprofit in Phoenix and envisions a collaborative model for Tucson.

February 2017
GRM’s men’s shelter bed count reduced from 106 to 55, prompting the search for a new facility.

March 2017
GRM begins seeking a new location to expand and better serve the community.

2018
Humberto S. Lopez purchases the former Holidome property and begins meeting with local nonprofits. The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation and GRM form a partnership. Groundbreaking held for the Center of Opportunity.

May 2019
Dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Center of Opportunity campus.

June 2019
The Center of Opportunity officially opens on June 3rd, serving people experiencing homelessness.

2020
Despite the challenges of COVID-19, the Center remains open—continuing to provide shelter, meals, and vital support services.

2021
Partner organizations expand, strengthening collaboration in housing, workforce development, medical care, and recovery programs.

2022
The Center grows to include over 30 service providers working together on one campus.

2023
Thousands of men, women, and children served through coordinated care. The Center is recognized statewide as a model for collaborative homeless services.

2024
Workforce Development and Housing Navigation programs expand, helping more guests transition to stable housing and employment. Stronger workforce development, housing, healthcare, behavioral health, and veteran support partnerships established onsite.

2025 (Today)
The Center of Opportunity stands as Arizona’s largest collaborative campus serving people experiencing homelessness. Over 50 nonprofit, community, business, government, and faith-based partners work together daily to help individuals move from crisis to transformation. Gospel Rescue Mission launches Opportunity Coffee & Cafe and Operation Rescue outreach initiatives.
