As an employee of Gospel Rescue Mission, Eric’s sense of purpose blossomed as he helped others. He recalls helping a woman who had spent months sleeping on a deflated air mattress. Because of the donations we had received, the Donation Center could provide everything she needed to turn her empty apartment into a home (down to the pots and pans).
Eric was also able to help a mother reunite with her children in foster care by providing her with furniture to create a stable home for her family.
Eric saw firsthand how a simple donation—a bed, a table, a set of dishes—could transform someone’s life. It wasn’t just stuff—it was hope, dignity, and a new beginning.
I GET to do this. I don’t HAVE to do this,” Eric says. “It gives me a sense of accomplishment. I’m doing good work helping others. I’m so blessed!
Without the resources provided by the Donation Center, many people would fall back into crisis. That’s why we don’t just serve people leaving homelessness—we also offer support for those on the brink of homelessness.
According to statistics, 59% of Americans are one paycheck away from losing everything. A job loss, a medical emergency, an unexpected bill—without support, these setbacks can push them over the edge into homelessness.
Every day, Eric and the donations team fulfill requests that help turn empty houses and apartments into homes for individuals on the brink of homelessness and those transitioning out of the shelter. Every item provided is made possible by donors like you.
It’s easy to think of an in-kind donation as just stuff—a bag of clothes, an old table, a set of dishes. But these items provide stability, restore dignity, and inspire hope for those receiving them.
What’s even more incredible is that this work is made possible by volunteers and staff, many of whom were once guests themselves—like Eric.
When you donate household goods or support GRM financially, you’re not just giving things away—you’re keeping families housed, restoring dignity, and helping people rebuild their lives.
