Savanah B

One meal turned into a journey of healing

Savanah came to Gospel Rescue Mission after a difficult season, navigating life as a caregiver and a single mother. For the past six months, she had been providing care to her son’s father, who was on the verge of losing his life due to severe lead poisoning from shrapnel left in his body. Savanah had been giving plasma to supplement her income and keep up with rent payments, but a sudden car accident prevented her from keeping up with appointments. Savanah lost her home. After finding stable living conditions for her son’s father, she needed a safe place to recover and make a fresh start. Savanah was encouraged by a close friend to come to Gospel Rescue Mission, so she came in for a meal one hot August afternoon with her 6-year-old son.

“One meal turned into a journey of healing, faith, and a home for my son and me.”

Initially, Savanah joined the Workforce Development program to look for a job, but after a short time and a few chapel services that profoundly impacted her, she recognized her need to work through some unprocessed traumas and her need for emotional healing from her past. She joined the Recovery Program and is working hard to rebuild her life—for herself. And for her son.

This #TestimonyTuesday, Savanah is celebrating one year of sobriety. She looks forward to continuing her recovery journey, cherishing her role as a mother, and embracing the future with a newfound relationship with Christ. Let’s celebrate with her.
